At 1340 hours on 19 November 1942 Spitfire EP571 flown by Flying Officer Park took off from Malta detailed to protect a convoy. The aircraft developed engine trouble and crashed in the Mediterranean approximately 60 miles south of Malta. Flying Officer Park baled out and drowned and his body was recovered by the Royal Navy.
