On 15 November 1945, Flight Sergeant Pflaum was killed when No. 11 Repair and Salvage Unit Kittyhawk aircraft A29-1006 crashed 3 kms east of Zamboanga just after takeoff at 1700 hours. The aircraft crashed into a residence and six Filipinos were also killed.
