On 13 September 1943 Squadron Leader Proudfoot flying Hurricane Z5587 was killed when the aircraft stalled and spun into the ground. Squadron Leader Proudfoot had previously trained on Blenheim aircraft and the Squadron was re-equipping with Hurricane aircraft.
