A No. 36 Squadron Wellington aircraft dived into the Mediterranean Sea approximately 50 miles north of Oran at around 1700 hours on 2 November 1943. Six of the crew members were rescued by HMS Anemone. They were injured and admitted to 7th US Hospital, Oran. Flying Officer Pullar died of his injuries on 2 November 1943. Flying Officer Brandt was missing believed killed.
