During a training flight on 19 June 1944, Kittyhawk A29-120 flown by Sergeant Rees crashed approximately seven miles west of the Mildura aerodrome at 1125 hours and he was killed. For reasons that were undetermined, the aircraft suddenly dived into the ground and burst into flames.
