On 14 June 1918, Lieutenant Rennie (Observer) and Lieutenant Seba Walter Sparks RFC (Pilot) were fatally injured when the Armstrong Whitworth FK8 aircraft in which they were flying slide-slipped and nose-dived into the ground shortly after taking-off into a strong wind.  Lieutenant Rennie died two days later.
