On 13 September 1942, Pilot Officer Robertson, a Pilot, was killed in an aircraft accident at Iron Range, Queensland. On return from the Squadron’s first operational mission, Marauder 40-1433, one of nine aircraft on the mission, is believed to have landed short of the air strip, blown a tyre and run into a ditch. There are other slightly varying versions of the incident, but Pilot Officer Robertson, the Second Pilot, was the only crew member killed.
