At 0825 hours on 14 September 1943, Vultee Vengeance A27-31 was carrying out a dive bombing practice with 250 lb (pound) High Explosive Bombs when the aircraft flying at about 11,000 feet near Williamtown exploded and was totally destroyed in flight. Both crew members were killed.
