On 31 January 1946, Leading Aircraftman Rolfe, a trainee technician, was admitted to No. 3 RAAF Hospital seriously ill with Subacute Nephritis and Pneumonia. He was assessed dangerously ill on 22 June 1946 and died of his illness on 21 September 1946.
