At 2320 hours on the night of 4 July 1944 Mosquito NS886 took off to carry out an offensive patrol on enemy road movements in the Orleans-Tours area. The weather was very good with bright moonlight and thin stratus cloud varying between 1,000 to 3,000 feet. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. The aircraft was lost and both crew members were killed.
