On 16 June 1942, Kittyhawk AK145 flown by Sergeant Ryan was in a formation of 9 aircraft detailed to bomb enemy concentrations in the Sidi Rozegh area. During the action heavy anti-aircraft fire was encountered, and on the return trip enemy aircraft attempted to intercept but broke away after a short encounter. AK145 was not seen again after this engagement and the aircraft failed to return to base.
