On 9 November 1916, Lieutenant Salmon resigned from the Australian Army and accepted a Commission in the British Army.
On 7 July 1917, Lieutenant Salmon, flying Sopwith Pup aircraft A6230, was fatally wounded during aerial combat over Kent with an intruding two-seater aircraft.
