Halifax W7699 of No 35 (Madras Presidency) Squadron RAF took off from RAF Station Linton-on-Ouse at 2329 hours on the 8th June 1942, to bomb Essen, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take off and it did not return to base. All six crew members were killed.
