On 9 June 1943, Corporal Schweitzer, a Clerk General, died of injuries received in an accident on 7 June 1943 which was caused by the hillside beside the road from Koitaki to Port Moresby collapsing on to a vehicle, causing it to roll over and tumble down an embankment. Corporal Maurice James Evans (25911), a General Hand, died from his injuries on the 7 June 1943.
