At 1843 hours on 24 March 1944 Halifax MZ507 took off from Station Snaith to attack Berlin. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it did not return to base. The aircraft was shot down by a night fighter and crashed at Kreien, 6 kms south south esast of Lubz. Five of the crew members were killed and two were taken prisoner.

The Germans reported that the two bodies were identified, and that Flight Sergeant Scott had lost his life, but no burial details were given.
