On the night of 19/20th April 1943 Wellington HZ248 was detailed to attack the landing ground at Soliman South. The target was at 36.39N 10.30E in Tunis in the vicinity of Zaghouan. HZ 248 took off at 1750 hours but nothing was heard from the aircraft and it failed to return to base. Other aircraft returning from the same mission reported seeing two aircraft shot down over the target and crash in flames at 2055 and 2105 hours. All crew members were killed.
