On 22 May 1943, Aircraftman Class I Spencer, an Electrical Fitter, was admitted to the RAAF Wing of the Royal Alfred, hospital seriously ill with Pulmonary Tuberculosis. He was discharged from the RAAF on 4 July 1943 and died of his illness on 1 October 1944.
