On 4 November 1944 Flight Sergeant Swinbourne was authorised to carry out aerobatics above 10,000 feet in Kittyhawk ET1022. When the aircraft was overdue a search was carried out. The aircraft was found to have dived or spun into the ground and Flight Sergeant Swinbourne had been killed. The aircraft had crashed at 1330 hours some 5 to 7 miles from RAF Station Abu Seuir, Egypt.
