On 16 January 1944, Sergeant Tarling, a Clerk, shot himself at a residence in Bay Road, Claremont. On 11 February he died from the resulting injuries at 110 Australian General Hospital (now Hollywood Private Hospital). The Coroner ruled that the injuries were self-inflicted.
