At about 1450 hours on 6 September 1940, Avro Anson R3540 broke up in mid air and crashed at the Wagga Wagga Experimental Farm. The aircraft had entered a steep dive leading to a partial collapse of its structure followed by an uncontrollable spiral into the ground. The three crew members who were all killed were:
