Pilot Officer Thiele in Spitfire A8394 became lost in clouds on 2 November 1941. He baled out at a low height of 200 feet and the parachute had not fully opened when he hit the ground and was killed. The aircraft crashed at Manor Farm, 1 mile south of Woodnorton, 6 miles due north of RAF Station Swanton Morley.
