On 26 August 1940, Aircraftman Class I Thomson was injured in a collision between a motor cycle that he was riding, and a motor utility truck. He was off duty at the time and the accident occurred on the Beaudesert Road, Moorooka. He was admitted to the Repatriation General Hospital, Windsor, and died of his injuries on 25 September 1940.
