At 0820 hours on 4 April 1940, Cadet Walsh, a Student Pilot flying solo, was killed in the crash of Demon A1-49 at the Hawkesbury Agricultural College, New South Wales. The aircraft stalled from an inverted position while carrying out aerobatics.
