On 14 September 1944, Corporal Webster, a Telegraphist, was returning from stand down at about 1900 hours along Heart Road, Sale. In the semi darkness Corporal Webster riding a motor cycle crashed into the rear end of a milk transport wagon which was proceeding in the same direction as him and he was killed instantly.
