On a non-operational day training flight on 2 July 1943, Spitfire P8694 crashed at Drip Farm Dripmoss, West Haugh, about two and a half miles north west of Stirling, Scotland. The accident was caused by unauthorised low flying.

Flight Sergeant Weeden was authorised to practice using the Cine Gun camera on another Spitfire between Stirling and Balado Bridge. After completing the exercise, Flight Sergeant Weeden proceeded to the low flying areas near Stirling, and after flying in the area for several minutes, the aircraft struck the ground at high speed and he was killed.
