At 2325 hours on the night of 12 April 1944 Stirling LJ483 took off from Tuddenham detailed to carry out a pre-invasion drop to the French resistance movement. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. The aircraft crashed at Roye (Somme), France, and all the crew members were killed.
