Flight Lieutenant Young enlisted in the RAAF at Melbourne Victoria; the reason his name is listed on the SA War Memorial is not clear.
On the 28 June 1945, Flight Lieutenant Young (Administrative & Special Duties) was dangerously injured when riding in a service vehicle which overturned at Noonamah, Northern Territory. He died later that day. The NT Crown Law Office held an inquest.
